Lore

The Grith

The Grith is the guardian of Chasmol, the threshold between the world and its core. It is a horned and winged creature with stony skin, yellow eyes, and human features. The Grith is a symbol of balance and belief.

Description

The Grith
The Grith

Chasmol is a fall that surrounds the core of the world, where giant pillars hold the world up. The Grith protects this threshold. It keeps unwanted energy from seeping out of the core, and keeps outsiders from venturing into it.

The Grith does not concern itself with the living. Its only purpose is to guard Chasmol.

Significance

The Grith is believed to exist purely on the basis of belief. If belief in the Grith ceases, calamity is expected to follow, spewing from the core.

It feels one thing only, and that is your belief, and on belief it feeds. Let faith wither, and the Grith withers with it, and from the core it keeps sealed, calamity comes spewing forth.

The Grith

Believers resort to extreme solutions to ensure that the Grith does not go hungry, holding that they act upon divine instruction.

Behaviour

If the Grith appears in a dream, in any form, it is taken to mean that it craves belief. It is hungry. It does not mean that the dreamer's own belief is missing, but that belief overall is weak.

Hear me when I say it: when the Grith visits your dreams, know that it's hungry. The Grith does not love you. It hears no prayer. It sees no pain.
