Voltur
Voltur is a deity and one of the five masked gods of The Far Country. Known as the God of The Sun, he is a divine being who bridges the boundaries between the realms.
Description
The masked gods appear to people as omens, as navigators, as symbols, and in dreams. Seen as a person, a masked god wears a mask and the clothes of an ordinary man, often a robe. This is how most people see them, when they are seen as a person at all: a masked god may instead be a shade, the way light passes through leaves, a crack in a wall.
Voltur's mask is silver, in the shape of a sun. He is a navigator and a constant: the sun that enlightens the way.
Significance
In some folklore the Sun God is feared. Mothers who have lost their children blame him for taking them, and travellers who never appear at their destination are believed to have been misled by Voltur. In regions such as Lysea, he is praised above all else.
I pray thee, Great Voltur, lead me to thy pasture.
Behaviour
Voltur appears to vulnerable people: those who feel, for whatever reason, that they do not belong, or that they might want to be elsewhere. He guides them through the land, bending matter and reality, creating thresholds and pathways through the world. The further in they follow, the stranger the paths become. Where he leads is entirely up to the led, whether they know it or not.
